It's easy to assume that recurring flushing, congestion, or other allergy-like symptoms must all have the same explanation. I like how you encourage readers to step back and look at the bigger pattern instead of trying to fit every symptom into one diagnosis!

I have IBS, am lactose and egg intolerant, hypermobile, trans, and incredibly clumsy in addition to the adhd and autism. I know it wasn't supposed to be a check list but damn

Your essay is so helpful and precisely on the spot.

We are a neurodivergent family, where all these and other co-occurrences are present:

synesthesia

malfunctioning of the immune system

issues with eyes, often the retina

sleep disorders

giftedness

mood swings, depression and anxiety

We would all long for one short and concise explanation - but the reality is that most of us neurodivergents really are a constellation, rather than one star …
